Jane Ann Broom of Hartlepool
« on: Friday 08 May 09 11:36 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for Jane Ann Broom on 1861 and 1871 census returns. She was born in Hartlepool in 1859 and is living there in 1881
Has a sister Louise also born Hartlepool.

Thanks

Hello Aberdein   Smiley

It looks possible that Louise Donway with whom they are living in 1881 might be their mother - or aunt.

There is a family in 1871 with Louise Broom b. 1831 Devon as Head, and a marriage in 1878 in Hartlepool between Louse Broom and William Donway.

Do you know whether there were other Broom children ?

I'm trying to fit this together Roll Eyes

There's a baptism for Jane Ann Broom in Hartlepool in 1859 residence James St at Durham Records Online (I have no credits at the moment) but she didn't show up in a census search on there.

Every time I try to post a reply I am told that another message has arrived from you good researchers. It seems pretty well sorted except that I dont know where Jane Ann was in 1871. Freebmd has Jane Ann Broom married Thomas Plows in Pancras in 1881 which seems strange as they both lived in Hartlepool. She did marry Thomas Plows so I suppose this must be correct

Thank you very much everyone for your efforts

If 'in service' she probably found a servant's job in London, lots of girls did

There's a Jane Ann Growing aged 11 General Servant Domestic at the Union Hotel in West Hartlepool, am just wondering if misheard by the enumerator?

RG10 Piece 4915 Folio 80 Page 11

Can't see a Jane Grewing/Growing in another census

I wonder if Thomas Plows is the J Plows who was a witness at Louisa's wedding?

Hi Angelfish

I was just going to say that witness would be Jane, now we know she married a Plows in 1881

Grin

Mum that's a strong possibility too, one or two of my relatives ended up there after their fathers died, they took them from all over the country
