Hi Jim
I'm struggling to see the family together in 1901 Where did you get the above info from for 1901?
The only thing that I can see, with age perhaps mis-transcribed for Sarah is this entry:
Sarah, 5, and Agnes 5, McEwan showing as visitors in a Fleming household in Forfar Angus. Both girls show as born in Alloa.

Hi Monica, thanks for that. I think they are probably both correct. Sarah was previously married to a William Reay and William was his son. Do you have the family in 1891? I don't know when she married William but if young William was 13 it suggests before 1891.
William Reay....... Sarah Reay 26 William Reay 3
So a marriage round about 1887 I would guess?
Many thanks. Jim

Hi Jim
This looks to be Sarah Jane's birth, to parents William and Elizabeth (Logan):
SARAH JANE ELLIOT Birth: 17 FEB 1863 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark
Sarah is alone for 1881 and already up in Alloa:
Sarah Elliot, 18, shopkeeper b. Glasgow Address: Primrose St, Alloa

Thanks for the look ups Monica, they have been a great help in tying up some loose ends. The McEwans were a fairground family so it has been really difficult in following their trail around Scotland. Jim
