Hi Ed

Have your tried searching under "Ann" or "Annie" as Nancy was a form of these
two names.
There are several options then for Hull so I'm not sure how you would narrow
them down.

I know it's highly unlikely that Nancy snr would still be alive for the 1861 census (age c. 94) but have you managed to find Nancy jun on any later censuses?

Was Nancy jun still 'Pickering' in 1851? is it possible she could have married after 1851?

If you go onto the Yorkshire BMD site

www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk

the ages at death of each Ann Pickering are given. (I agree that there are no Nancys to be found so it is most likely a familiar version of Ann).

Going by the c. 1767 birthdate you gave, there's an Ann Pickering death in Hull (Humber Sub District) in 1852 age 87 and another in 1855 (Sutton Sub District) age 88.

There's yet another in 1863 - Myton Sub District - age 95. This one should be traceable on the 1861 census.

Unfortunately, the references on this website are for the local Register Offices so don't correspond with the GRO indexes on FreeBMD but you should be able to match them up.

I don't know which of the 3 Sub Districts Cook Court would have been in but you might be able to work that out from street maps of the period - or it might give that info on the 1851 census return.

Nancy jnr was still a Pickering in 1851 and I could not find any marriage after that date. The actual birth date nancy snr was 1766 which would make her 86 in 1852.
The sub distrct of Hull for the census is shown as St Mary and nothing shows up for either Nancy in 1861.
Goes to show that even though Nancy snr was 85 and not able to wander far she is hard to find - and I thought she would be a snap.
