Hi Capricorn
I wonder if the death entry you found on SP for 1898 has had the age mis transcribed. If it was 91 rather than 41.... The combination of those surnames is not common and the place is right.
Gillian, might be worth looking at the image given there is no other possible entry coming up for Elizabeth. Given that Capricorn has found Elizabeth alive up 1891 at Row certainly makes it look a strong possibility.

Caesar Altria's work at the Marischal Virtual Museum, Aberdeen Univerity http://shrunklink.com/cjsx
I had to search that name to see what came up! Although not sure if this was Caesar Snr. or Junior.

Eliza Warr c 1900 Found her she lied about her age

All Thanks so much that is indeed good - I had looked at SP and seen the index but was too mean to purhase a peek! Will spend the $ now and down load it! The census takers have indeed had a lot of 'fun' with the surname it starts out as Machan, in 1841 it's transcribed as Machon, then Mauchin in 1851, Mauchan in 61, and 71, Marchan in 81 and Maryhar in 1891 - I might try those combinations to find my Greatgrandfather's census record in 1901(her grandson Andrew who should be with his mother Annie widow of Elizabeth's son John) Thanks for all the fantastic help
Gillian
