John Edward POULDEN

I am desperately searching for information on John Edward Poulden, born approx 1859, married to Mary McCluskey in New South Wales, Australia, on 1887.

I need to know his birthplace - could be Somerset or Bristol, England or Somerset U.S.A.

Dawn,  Maybe the way to come at this is to look in the census of 1861 and 1871- ask for a lookup if needs be. His place of birth will be given there.

You can check out 1881 census online free yourself- go to familysearch and there you'll find the link to 1881 census. Of course he may have emigrated by then but what you want is going to be done by process of elilmination.

Does his NSW marriage cert help at all?

Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your reply. I cannot find him on any census.
On his marriage certificate he gives his birthplace as America.
On his first child's birth certificate he gives it as Somerset.
On his children of his second marriage and on his death certificate it is given as Bristol England.
So as you can see I am having a lot of trouble.
