Holy Island - Pilgrims' Path

Hi
Not sure if this is widely known and I haven't seen it mentioned here but there seems to be a further delay in the release of the Welsh Counties because of problems with transcribing from Welsh language records. Best estimate is now the end of June:

thanks for that, Gadget. At least we know not to get too excited yet & to carry on with the deep breathing exercises.
We need a smiley with a halo for patience.

but there are plenty of very Welsh place names in those 2 counties. The transcription is being done in the Philippines and then tested by a team based in Dundee. So, you might wonder what they make of Ystradyfodwg or Llanfihangel ystern Llewern.

I agree, surely it's just be the place-names?
We're talking about a period when my nan was forbidden to speak Welsh at school (despite it being her first language at home). Children had wooden boards hung around their necks with appropriate rebukes painted on them if they dared!
Mind you, I am talking about Monmouthshire, so disagree that they weren't Welsh-speaking counties.
I wonder how many householders risked filling in the forms in Welsh?
I think I can be patient for another six weeks.

I came across quite a few transcriptioons on (I think) the 1891 and 1901 - the relationships, occupations and counties were in Welsh - some howlers with Sir Morganwg being transcribed as Montgomery.
Then, there's my nain being your mamgu

as an example, on the 1851 census of Llanbadarn Fawr, Cardiganshire , there's a couple of pages of people who were apparently born in Bath, Cards. It should, of course, be Borth. And that's only a 5 letter word with a vowel. So, some of the longer place names or ones that would appear to any eye trained to read English names to not have a vowel - the likes of Cwmtwrch - are going to be rather challenging.

jennyrob, the article I read in Ancestors didn't give a reason for the transcribing being done in the Philippines. But, I imagine it would be a question of cost.

Central cardiff will be missing from the census apparently. See below.
All of the original household pages have survived, but some of the Enumerators’ Summary books (RG78s), relating to the following counties and registration sub-districts, are missing from the archives:
Buckinghamshire: Amersham
Cambridgeshire: Leverington, Walpole St Peter
Devonshire: Okehampton
Cheshire: Lymm, Budworth, Runcorn
Glamorganshire: Central Cardiff
Leicestershire: Lutterworth
Lincolnshire (unspecified registration sub-districts)
Somersetshire: Keynsham, Long Ashton
Staffordshire: Repton, Tamworth
Warwickshire: Atherstone
Yorkshire, West Riding: Norton
This means that they will never be available online, and the original household page will be the only page that you receive when you pay for an image.
It also means that in a small number of cases you will not be able to locate a household through the ‘residential place’ field by using certain names such as the civil parish, as these were transcribed from the enumerators' summary books to power the search function.
