BERRY Edward
« on: Wednesday 19 August 09 13:47 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find details of Edward Berry born about 1838, Oak Point(?), New Brunswick, Canada. He gave various ages on census and other docs, so I'm not sure of actual date. He gave his father's ocupation as a cooper (father also Edward). 'My' Edward was a mariner, but I have no ship details. By 1865 he was in Newport, Wales, as he married Mary Ann Hale there. The children were Agnes Ann b1866 Newport, d1913 bur Middlesborough (My g grandmother), William Edward Berry b 1868 Newport, John H b1873 Middlesborough, Frank
b1876 Middlesborough and Selina b1880 Middlesborough.  He died in Middlesborough, England in 1915. I would love to know more about him or the rest of the family. Can anyone help?

Hi
I have been looking at this family but am not having much success finding them in all the census records.  I did get them in 1881 and in 1901 when they were at the same address.   Did they own the house?    Did he leave a will?   Have you tried the 1911 census?

Many thanks for replies. I have census details for 1871, 81,91 and 1901. I don't know of any wills. Do you know of any quick links?
I haven't tried 1911 yet.

Unfortunately there are no "quick links" when it comes to this sort of detailed research.  Some early wills are online but for those post 1858 you have to search the index which is available on fiche at many record offices.  You then have to order it from the probate office in York.  Try googling Central Probate Office and you should get lots of information.   My family in Middlesbrough were not well off but there was still an admon (letter of administration) as the widow had put in a claim on the estate.    Cleveland Archives Office in Marton Road may be able to help you.  They also have various lists of voters and who lived where.
