Mitchell or Park Circus?
« on: Saturday 09 May 09 15:35 UTC (UK) »

Sorry folks.
This is such a basic question.
I'm sure I've asked it before!  Roll Eyes
I cannot find the answer on RC, SP or elsewhere.

I have a number of questions.
However, can someone sum up the difference between the two?

Dave

Modified - I dinnae mean one's a big building near Charing cross and the other is up on the hill!  Grin

Park Circus Has what Edinburgh has, what you get on SP but without the cut off dates that Sp has, I think the only records you cant see are for the past year,
there is also Directories like Kelly's

It has been a long time since i have been up there, but sure it is the past year you cant view, not sure what they charge no used to be £13 for the day they may have brought it down to £10 like Edinburgh,

hope that helps

They do indeed Syb,
Good links.
The Mitchell should make it clearer exactly what records they hold though.

Thanks.

Just be aware that the searching system in Park Circus is a bit different from S.P.   No wildcards etc.  Results displayed differently and a few other differences. Staff are very helpful though.

If it has changed, I'm sure someone else will let you know.

If you are going to the Mitchell, have a look at the OPR  IGI index, well worth it..  It can be searched differently from online IGI.

You soon get used to the different ways of searching. BTW it's £14 now.

I've never seen the OPR IGI index at The Mitchell - where do you access that?

Tootsie / Nel

Thank you both.

Seems to me first port of call should be the Mitchell.

Not sure of the terminology Nel but the one and only time I was at the Mitchell (last month) I was looking through OPRs galore.  Whether that's IGI, I'm not sure.

Perhaps it's just different terms that are confusing me?

Hi Nel

Its on the link previously given by Syb, and I'm thinking it may be the same one as  the Morman FHS had.  i.e. different C.D's for different countries.

''The IGI is also available on a multi CD Rom version, known as Family Search, with world coverage.''
