Elizabeth Green
« on: Sunday 10 May 09 08:48 UTC (UK) »

Hello.

I've been working on my Green line now for almost 2 years and have very little really!

What i have at present that is tormenting me is that this lady Elizabeth seems to have been an ancestor but i cannot pin her down origins wise.

I have a Dec 1841 death cert extract for an Elizabeth Green wife of a Robert Green, Ag Lab, which stands also as per 1851 census but he was then married to my gggmother, Sarah Watkins Green, who came from Wales, and they had 3 of their 4 children by then.  My ggrandmother Jane was Robert and Sarah's 4th and last child; she was born in 1855.  All the children were born in Weeley, Essex.

Elizabeth ? ? Green was 61 as per this death cert.  I have a paid research report from the Essex RO and they give an April 14th 1819 St Andrews, Weeley marriage for a Robert Green and a
PARISH WIDOW
,  Elizabeth Langlands, however i am unable to find this anywhere else.

I have used familysearch to see if i could deduce her age and maiden name to no avail.

I've also tried ancestry's pages, including Pallots but again not able to get any synchronicity with name, age, marriage etc.

I have been on this page before re my Robert & Sarah Green, but not for this lady Elizabeth, if indeed she was an Elizabeth.

My gggrandfather, Robert Green was already a Widower when he married Sarah in 1844, in London.  At present i'm settling on c1801 as his birth year.  The 1851 census has him aged 50.  It appears he died in the 1850's sometime, i think in the latter half decade, as Jane was born in 1855, and the 1861 census has Sarah as Head of the family.

Can someone help me out please?
Many thanks,
Julie

A long shot, found the following marriages on Boyds index.

1796  /     LANGLANDS       ROB  /     SMALL       ELZ  /     NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE ALL SAINTS  /     NORTHUMBERLAND

1798  /     LONGLANDS       GEO  /     NICOLSON       ELZ  /     NEWBURN  /     NORTHUMBERLAND

I checked the NBI, there are very few Langland/Longland burials in Essex and loads in Northunberland.

Thanks SussexSue,
The info you gleaned i presume is suggesting that Elizabeth [nee?] Green's parents?
It is useful to know about name demographics.
Thank you,
Julie

Hello Neil,

Thanks very much.

My recently found Green descendent 3rd cousin [Peter] lives in Wiltshire and he is doing the research bit periodocally in order that we can determine, hopefully, more clarity and definition to the identity of our Robert Greens, father and son.

Another distant living relative, Shane from Ipswich recently advised me that he was descended from a Green line:  a Robert Green and Jemima Brown - and then via their dtr, Sarah Harriet Green b 1793 at Gt Horkesley.  Sarah md into a Warren line.  Her 3rd child was Charles Warren and his son Charles jr b 1850 at St Osyth - thus he is Shane's great great grandfather. Shane b in 1962.  It seems that Peter, Shane and i share Patrick Green and Jemima.

All to be confirmed.  Have not been able to discuss this further with Shane as he is not contactable.

Any news that might seem worthy i'll pass it on.

Kind regards
Julie

Just an odd question:  do you have the name Octavius in your lines?

Hi Julie,
Sorry no OCTAVIUS. My Greens hail from Chelmsford. Ann b1806 Daughter of Philip Green and Ann Gowers? Married my GG Grandfather William Todd in London around 1834. they were getabouts for the day. They had a son William in 1835, Went to the US in 1938 had a daughter Mary Ann there in Tennessee 1839,then went back to England, then came to Australia in 1855. William died here in 1859. His son William my GGrandfather came here in 1859 and married in Braidwood 1860.
I have only just started to research my Green family ancestors. But the ship records show that Philip and Ann Green were deceased when the Todd's left England. Smiley Neil
