Mary Vale
« on: Sunday 10 May 09 09:38 UTC (UK) »

I would be very grateful if anyone has any tips on how I can find out the name of my Great-Grandmother's mother.
My Great-Grandmother was born in 1827 according to her death record so I cannot get it off her birth certificate. I have managed to find out that her father's name was William off the marriage record for her on IGI records but I have been unable to find her christening/birth record on there.  According to the census records I have found for her she was born in Tenbury.  Unfortunately by the time the census records started in 1841 William was living on his own.

Hi Fraggie,

Are you certain that Mary Vale married John Page?  I only ask because there is a marriage of a Mary Vale in Tenbury in 1850 to William Bayliss/Thomas Mace/George Morris.

That aside, to find out the name of Mary Vale's mother, you will probably have to go back to the original parish records.  The names of both parents should be recorded in the parish records (unless the child is illegitimate).  On both the 1851 and 1861 census returns for the Mary married to John, she gives her place of birth as Tenbury so that would be the obvious place to start.  I can't remember whether the parish records for Tenbury are in Hereford or Worcester ( Roll Eyes ) so you would need to contact both record offices to find out.  Should she not be in the parish records for Tenbury, you might have to consider whether they were non-conformists (the marriage cert might give some indication of this), or whether Mary was christened in another parish - for example with the Mary you found marrying John Page, they married in Cleobury Mortimer so perhaps that is where Mary was christened.

Spidermonkey
Thanks for the info, yes she was definiely married to John Page according to my Grandmother's birth ceritifcate.  It looks like I may have now found her mother's name.  It looks like her parents were married at Eye and she was christened at Brimfield.
thanks once again
