Fitzsimons - Patrick
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 21:58 UTC (UK) »

Seeking death info for Patrick Fitzsimons b 1837 Ireland, m Elizabeth Denvir 1855 Whitehaven Cumberland (vol 10b page 688). Elizabeth  in 1861 census listed as 'married' but living with parents and brother - no husband listed - but by 1871 noted a 'widowed'....have looked for death details but - no joy - also no joy with death info for Elizabeth Fitzsimons - nee Denvir.

Thanks in advance

Is there a reason you've posting this query on County Down, Ireland board? If Patrick married in England it's most likely that he would have died there.

Civil registration of deaths in Ireland started in 1864 so if Patrick did die in Ireland before 1864 there will be no death certificate.

Yes....have searched deaths in England - Cumberland and Whitehaven but not found anything....and wondered whether the fact that Elizabeth is listed as 'married' in 1861 census (but with absent husband) might indicate that Patrick was 'at sea'. Most other 'Denvir' details point to Down incl Elizabeth's father - and wondered whether there might be a remote connection as Whitehaven is a coastal port and there are strong links between Whitehaven and Down throughout the family.....clutching at straws, really.....

Many thanks

Index to Irish civil registration is now online although as I mentioned deaths only started in 1864:

Lots of Co. Down Fitzsimons mentioned here:

Thank you - I wonder whether the entry in 1863 - 'info sought by mother '- might be 'my' Patrick....only have vague info that he may have d 1865 (10b 383) No children of mariage noted at all - appear to be a catholic family tho..and have Denvir family Whitehaven from church registers. Elizabeth Fitzsimons nee Denvir has no re-marriage and cant find any death either...mystery!!!!???

Thanks for responses

Don't understand these two references (in bold) from your post.

Hi again

Having looked at the links you very kindly provided there was oone in particular on the Ros Davis link (the 2nd link provided). Although I had looked through this before an entry now stands out as a possibility - ref no: LR 2007 p79 - describes 'info sought' about Patrick Fitzsimons by his mother, Margaret. It seems that he had lost contact with his family...and given the timeframe (1863) it might be a match for the Patrick I am researching.

I wonder if she ever found her son...Huh?? I cannot find any details for him following his marriage to Elizabeth Denvir in 1855, and she is listed as widowed in all but one (1861) subsequent censuses. Elizabeth herself 'disappears' after her father, with whom she lived, died.

Can the info on the Ros Davis site be viewed in full, does anyone know?

Many thanks

The spource given for the information is LR 2007 p79-
LR= Lecale Review magazine- formerly Lecale Miscellany by Lecale Historical Society (page 79 of 2007 issue). Not sure where it is available.
