NEWSPLAN London and the South East History and Society Through Local Newspapers in London and the South East Introduction to NEWSPLAN The NEWSPLAN London and the South East web-site provides details of about 2,500 titles of local newspapers, past and present, relating to the London and South East region of the United Kingdom. The entries include main titles and titles of their variant editions for local areas, together with predecessor and successor titles; start and end dates of newspapers; and, where and in what sequences the newspapers are held in (largely) public libraries and archives within London and the South East. Many copies, too, are held by the British Library Newspaper Library.
Early 18th. Century Newspaper Reports http://www.infopt.demon.co.uk/grub/grub.htm
Not whole newspapers, but a selection of articles, under the following headings: - Trials at the Old Bailey, Hangings at Tyburn, Famous Criminals, Mobs and the Pillory
- Love and Marriage, Abandoned Children, Rape and Infanticide, Sodomites and the Drury Lane Ladies
- Bills of Mortality, Suicides, Natural Catastrophes, Horrid Accidents and Funeral Customs
- Health and Beauty and Advertisements for Quack Medicines
- Daily Life, Work and Poverty, Runaway Apprentices and Slaves, Commerce, Trade and Bankruptcy
- Religion, Witchcraft, Jews, French Protestants
- Scientific Inventions, Wonders of Nature and Monstrous Births
- Politics and Public Order
- Low-Life Literature
Tending as it does, to the sensational and villainous, it could be useful, if you have a black sheep (or more), or maybe a skeleton (or two, or more) in the family.

Books
Google Books http://books.google.com/bkshp?hl=en&tab=wp
Some of the books found here are complete, sometimes you can only see excerpts - it depends on the copyright laws for different countries. But for most books, there is a link "Search Libraries" (or similar wording) where you can find out whether the book is available at a library near you. It may then be possible to order it through inter-library loans.
Project Gutenberg www.gutenberg.org
Jakky put this link on the Lancashire board and I think it needs a wider audience.
Its a site of all sorts of old books on all sorts of subjects, which you can download FOR FREE ... thousands of them ... not the same as Google books and well worth a look.
I've found one about the early Canadian settlers I'd been looking for for ages ...
