John OLIVER - If he didn't come from Camrose then where?
« on: Friday 25 September 09 15:24 UTC (UK) »

Please can anyone help me find a baptism and parents for my 3 X great grandfather, John OLIVER?

John OLIVER was a blacksmith and he lived at Talbenny with his wife Mary (DAVIES).  They married at Talbenny on 22nd May 1823.

John was born c 1800 and consistently gave his birth place as Camrose in the censuses from 1851 to 1881.   Unfortunately he doesn't appear to have been baptised there and I couldn't find any other OLIVER family members in the register either.

Any suggestions please on where to go next or does anyone have a missing John OLIVER from c 1800 in their tree maybe?

Regards,

Diana

the family may have been non-conformist which would explain lack of baptisms in the parish register. There was an independent church in Keeston in existence at the time.

Hi Osprey

Many thanks for that info.   I'll look into it.

I note references to the surname in nearby Clydau, St Dogmells & Marloes,
however since at the time of your interest mrge by law had to take place in an anglican church I searched for any Oliver mrge pre 1800, alas there are none that I note to come close to requirements, so looking elsewhere there are a good number of references across the border in Cardigan and Carmarthen. I.M.H.O. ~ Cardigan is favourite.
From my index of Burgess of Pembroke Borough 1678 to 2006 I note
Lewis Oliver a Farmer of Treiregin was made burgess 28 Oct 1811 Admin bk 13 page 4 Minute bk page 319.
(neither document contains any more info than shown here)

Hi Orielbenfro

I hadn't expected to hear any more so your reply was extremely welcome.   Even knowing that nothing has been found is helpful.

I do seem to have hit a brick wall in Pembrokeshire so looking elsewhere is the obvious next step.   I will post on the Cardiganshire board to see if anything turns up.

Many thanks indeed both for the suggestion and the Lewis OLIVER info.
