Jane along with her two brothers and one sister went to Australia, although I do not know quite when they went except that they are on the 1881 census for Montrose and not on the 1891 census. Mum Mary was a widow and since I can`t find her after the 1881 census nor a death or remarriage I assumed that she had travelled with her children.
Thank you for you interest Cando aberdein

Jane`s sister was Alexina Wishart Brown born Montrose 1871. Married Wiliam James Attwood 1917. Died Melbourne 1962. Brother Francis Alexander Brown born Montrose 1869. Married Betsy Rattray Aberdein of Montrose in 1894 in Elsternwick. I think he died about 1954, don`t know where. Other brother was Andrew Brown born Montrose 1874. I believe he died in Brunswick in 1958 but I have no information about a marriage.

Hi, Andrew Brown appears to be interred at Fawkner Memorial Park
Location Andrew Brown aged 84 . Garden Of Remembrance 3 Wall Niches Section 1 Compartment G Niche 173. 30/6/1958
He in alone at that location which maybe an indication of there having been no marriage as you say.

Thank you very much everyone for all that information. I have Betsy buried at Brighton cemetery 1928. It looks as though Jane`s mum Mary may not have gone to Australia after all as there appears to be no sign of her. Betsy and her mum Isabella Aberdein , who was a widow, went to Australia after the "Browns" as they are on the 1891 census for Montrose. When Isabella`s husband, George, died he left quite a lot of property and land in Montrose so I suppose it would have taken some time to sell everything up. I think Isabella, nee Maconachie, died 1910. I suspect that Betsy and Francis were sweethearts in Montrose. At least I like to think so.
Thanks again
