John DRAPER c 1750 Hilmarton Baptism Lookup please

Hi
I've been trying to confirm details of the parentage of James Draper chr 8 Mar 1778 Hilmarton, Wilts.
I have his father down as a John Draper or Drapper b c 1750 Hilmarton and his mother simply as Ann.  Any help confirming the details of either John or Ann would be greatly appreciated.

Using Parloc, a free parish locator prog. from http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html , one can find the distance between parishes and other useful info.  The parish of Hilmarton is only five miles from Broad Hinton.

Using the Hugh Wallis site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyWiltshire.htm#H one can find batches of info extracted from church records - see the LDS library catalogue of films from Hillmarton (sic).  The batch giving Hilmarton data is C152961 and your James's baptism is there.  The accuracy of extraction from church records is very reliable unlike submitted IGI entries which are often fairytales in some respect.

However, you will not find the parish of Broad Hinton in the Hugh W. site, but when on its search criteria page for Hilmarton enter the name Draper and change the batch number to M160831 then hit, "Submit query".   You will be given some marriages extracted from the LDS film number 1239308 which can be hired and searched at the FHC in any LDS church at £2.70 for a three week hire. The batch number C160831 will give extracted baptisms.

I cannot say that the John is yours but it is not unusual for the locations and dates given in submitted entries of the IGI to be inaccurate guesses and if you found any info. from there . . . . .

Regarding JD's baptism it might be fruitful to use http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/FindingBatchNos.html and Parloc to try to find any parishes near Hilmarton/Broad Hinton which have had their records filmed but the data not extracted.  A search of any found might reveal JD.

Another search possibility is a check of the 254 JD bap. entries in the IGI to see if there's an extracted one from a suitable parish and date.  The HW site can then be used at that parish to some advantage perhaps.

Do not despair, there's plenty to do!
