1911 census
« on: Sunday 10 May 09 22:22 UTC (UK) »

My Gt Gt Grandfather John Cash lived Saunders Road Parish of Knockbreda. On the 1911 census
he is married to his 2nd wife Eliza Jane. It states he was born in England, is there any way
of finding out which county he was from?  Can anyone help!

Unfortunately the 1901 census (if he was in Ireland then) will also list country of birth (England) rather than an exact location or county. Irish death and marriage certificates don't list place of birth.

Hi thanks for your quick reply.  My Gt Grandfather Alexander Cash born 1889 and his brothers
were all born in Ireland.  Unfortunately, we can't seem to find the 1901 census on line so don't
know what year he went there.  Any suggestions?

The 1911 census says Eliza's been married 10 years and since she was born in Ireland it's likely John Cash was in Ireland at the time of the 1901 census. Eventually 1901 will be added to 1911 census on National Archives website but suspect it will be awhile. There are some bits of 1901 online- see links under Down Resources.
Was John Cash's first marriage in Ireland? (might help to narrow down date he arrived in Ireland)

Hello again, John's first wife was Mary Jane Fleming they married in 1881 at St Patricks, Knockbreda his occupation Rivetter. I'm assuming he worked in a shipyard! No age on marriage info for him, Mary
was 20 he must have been 23ish (age on 1911 - 52). Thanks for your help.

Marriage certificate should list his father's name and occupation but that probably won't help you find a location in England.

16th Dec 1900 John Cash married Eliza Jane Shaw at Christchurch Church of Ireland
in the Parish of Shankill, Civil District Belfast, County Antrim.

The marriage certificate may give better info than second marriage.
