LECK LECH LAKE LAIK LEAK Crailing, Jedburgh & Linton or ROX in general
« on: Saturday 16 May 09 09:17 UTC (UK) »

hi folks,
Is anyone by any chance researching LECK / LECH / LAIK / LEAK &c name in Roxburgh?  Can anyone shine any light on any member of this family and/or the parents; knowing who Thomas & Margaret's parents were would be really great  Cheesy

I have a JANET LECK / LECH b.1796

I've tracked her to this family:
Thomas LECK & Margaret MIDDLEMAST
m.6 Dec 1795 Crailing   m117862

Janet* LECK b.2 OCT 1796 Crailing  [mum Middlemast]  c117862

<? Margaret LECK> b.16 Jun 1799 Morebattle [no mum listed] c118012

Robert** LEAK  c.24 Feb 1802 Jedburgh, ROX [mum Midlemist]  c117926

<a birth here? 1804/5 during a 5yr gap betw. Rbt & Thos>

Thomas LECK b.19 Mar 1807 Crailing [mum Middlemas]

Andrew LAKE b.27Mar1810 Linton [mum Middlemas]  c117962

James Middlemass LECK b.9 Apr 1812 Linton  [mum Middlemas]
c117962

As you can see, they were a restless bunch so there could well be many more babies unaccounted for.

*JANET marries JAMES DAVIDSON Lempitlaw, Sprouston c.1812  [date based on their first known child being b. in 1813]

** Robert may have m. a Margaret WALKER

To date, my borderers seem to have been fairly rigid in their application of name patterns, so, if this family followed the same tradition, i speculate that the parents' parents could be

Robert & Janet LECK/LAKE/LAIK &c

and Margaret Middlemast's mum could be Margaret; dad's a bit more problematical in that there is a 5yr gap between baby Robert and his younger sibling Thomas.  If it was a girl, Margaret's dad may be called Thomas, however, if the missing baby is a boy...!  who knows.  It is always possible that they had other ideas about who they'd name their kids after, of course  Undecided

I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who's linked to this family or, who has come on them in their research and could possible add to mine

Thank you very much for your time and trouble
