Bit More,
My forebears include a Mr and Mrs John and Mary Smith arriving in NSW from UK to NZ separately, meeting there in abt 1881 as adults and then to NSW by 1883. I have checked my own records, but cannot see a definite link. I have contacted other family members and we all know how difficult it is to search of John Smith. We are aware of several late 19th Century families with surname SMITH in Darling Downs who were associated with a) droving, (from Bourke to Winton via Charleville mostly) b) shearers - many locations and c) butchers, perhaps as far as Charters Towers. BUT cannot find Harriet (James Robert Smith's Mum) or surname Flint (her nee name?) in any of our records.
The John (Ellington) Smith that my profile notes, well he seems to have had a brother JAMES - but not sure of this. The family were from Cambridgeshire - probably Ely, perhaps sons of John and Lucy, and I have census information if the Fromelles missing lad, James Robert Smith, may be nephew of John (Ellington) Smith, ie John (Ellington) Smith - perhaps who was brother of JAMES. But, I caution, finding which James SMITH is not an easy task.
JM
The search continues.
JM

Bit More,
The following index entry on Qld bdm perhaps may help, although different middle forename.
1922/F8129 Smith Henry Francis (son of) James Smith (and) Harriet (nee) Flint ** late Sergeant
JM (noting the "F" in the reference number indicates this death certificate was issued for the AIF who Fell, volunteers who enlisted in Qld.

Harriett Flint and James Smith don't appear to have married in Queensland.
However, their daughter Harriet Parthenia Smith married Cyril Frederick Kohler in 1916. Ref = C1856
