Lookup please - Myatt
« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 06:29 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I've found William J Myatt b 1861 and Annie Hastings born 1868/9. They were married in New Cumnock 1895 and had a son in 1907. I believe Annie had a child before as there is a stepson Hastings in the 1901 census, but I'm struggling to confirm info on other children they may have had together. Can anyone help? I did come across 2 possible daughters but they seemed to be about 10/12 years too old.

Also anything on the Hastings line would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi slfhdn,

There are four death records with Myatt surnames, and Hastings as mother's surname. They are:

Agnes Emily Myatt (other name: McBride) - d. 1980 in Vale of Leven, West Dumbartonshire (b. c. 1902)
Annie Hastings Myatt (other name: Kelly) - d. 1974 in Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway (b. c. 1899)
Sarah Bamford Myatt (other name: Goudie), d. 1985 in Dunfermline, Fife (b. c. 1896)
Thomas Myatt, d. 1978 in Galston, Ayrshire (b. c. 1904)

Hello Sifhdn,

Looks like William Myatt, died 1912. age 51 years, New Cumnock, Ayr. His wife Ann Hastings Myatt, died 1947. age 79 years, again New Cumnock, Ayr.

Annie Hastings, do you know who her parents were, is it possible her parents were Robert Hastings, and Helen Evans.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hello Sifhdn,

No it looks like Annie Hastings, parents were Charles Hastings, and Margaret Harries, who were married 10/July/1863. Kirkmahoe, Dumfries. it also looks like Annie Hastings, was born 3/July/1868. Kirkmichael, Dumfries.

Going by the births that Liznel, provided i see a James Austin Myatt, i take it if this is correct then this Annie Hastings, daughter of Charles Hastings, and Margaret Harries, had a brother called Robert Austin Hastings, born 27/March/1870. Holywood, Dumfries.

Regards,
Jonn.

Thank you both. This is great!

I've carried on my search and made some progress since my original post, but your info has certainly added.

Liznel - Thanks - of the people you listed I had only Edward Bamford b 1907 (this is the strong line I started to follow as living relatives follow the same naming tradition, which has helped).

Jonn - Thanks too - I had William James Myatt and dob, but not date of death. I also had Annie's dob but not death. I'd found Robert the brother as witness at her wedding, along with a Marion (surname illegible) so thanks for Dob. I can confirm your second post re Annie's parents being Charles and Margaret - and she had (I think) 6 siblings:

Catherine b 23/04/1874
John b 18/05/1872
Jane Harries b 14/01/1865
David Harris b 08/11/1863
William b 08/08/1866
Robert Austin b 27/03/1870

Onwards and backwards! It's so exciting. I just came across some info on someone else's tree where their relative had been taken to court for poaching and my GGG Grandad Austin James Myatt was the Water Bailiff!

I've taken a shine to the name Austin from my tree - so be warned any future father of my children :-)

Oooh no. Would be intrigued to see how you fit in.

I have a couple of generations back from them - do you? I've been concentrating on the other side for a little while as I drew a blank and can't seem to get any further just now.

Not gone in to much depth on it yet but...  Their son, George Myatt, is my great grandfather.  My granny was Elizabeth Myatt, who married William Dykes.  Have father Charles Hastings and mother Margaret Herries.  Charles Hastings' father = William Hastings, but couldn't make out the mother's name on Charles' wedding certificate..?  Margaret Herries father = David Herries, mother = Catherine Austin. William J Myatt father = Austin James Myatt ad mother = Sarah Bamford.  Guess you have all of the same, but any further?..  Have found possible A J Myatts in England census results, but not sure I have right one yet...

Hi

I have all the same info as you - including not being able to read the mother's name on the marriage cert!

My link is through George's younger brother so we are 3rd cousins!! Have you all the siblings of George? I have 8 children so far.

Austin James is, I think, born in 1843 in Worcester. I have him as
1861 Gamekeeper
1881 Waterbailiff Cockermouth
1882 Water Bailiff - if you google him there's a newspaper report of a court case against a poacher and he gets a mention.
