Cowes yachting and races

This may not be the right place for this post but I have to start somewhere.
Does anyone know where I can find out about past yacht races in Cowes. I have just discovered that a x times great uncle from Suffolk was a crew member on a yacht that would have taken part in events in Cowes in 1880/90s and am keen to know more.
I am assuming that the vessel was a yacht. It's name was 'Bird' and it was owned by John Jameson of the Jameson Distillery family in Dublin.
