Grodden Brook in Tintwistle
« on: Tuesday 12 May 09 11:09 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know about this place? 3 ancestors, (father and 2 sons) are listed as visitors in the 1851 census. I suspect it may be a hospital or similar but would love to know for sure!

Will's occupation is Dittoed as Quarryman

they are staying at a place (as written by enumertor0 "Crodden Brook "

possibly this could be an old spelling of Crowden brook ??

It is not a hospital - Crodden? brook is the name of the village/hamlet - and the Hartleys are staying at/ visiting a farm

Do you have the full census - it is on 2 pages ?

If not i will post details for you
