On a document I have obtained for my g.g.grandfather he gives his place of birth as Keil. I believe this could be in Scotland, his name was John Brodigan and he was born in 1848. I wonder if anyone could help me with this.

John Brodigan was in the merchant navy, the document I have is from a crew list entry. His place of birth is given as Keil. I looked it up in the atlas and the only place I could find spelt in that way was Keils on the Isle of Jura. It came as a surprise to me because I had always asumed he was born in Ireland.I know he married Martha Jones in 1877 and they lived in Aberystwyth Wales where my great grandfather Thomas Brodigan was born in 1882. Thankyou for all your help Vienna.

I've done a search for any children baptised with a surname brod*g*n - no results.
b*d*g*n only gets Bridgetowns of various spelling but one family and a Broadgreen.
