Have been researching my wife's ancestor, Archibald McDiarmid, apparently born in Perthshire about 1828. We believe his parents to be Archibald McDiarmid and Margaret Campbell. He came to Victoria, Australia on the ship "Bourneuf" in 1852. We have a fair amount of information of his life in Australia, but nothing on his early life in Scotland other than a letter of recommendation from a James Culrop, Minister of the Gospel, Stirling Scotland, dated 8 May 1852. Is there anybody out there with an interest in this man or family. All the best, Lyn and Trevor,Australia.

I have no interest in your Archibald
However, I did a search on the IGI for children of Archibald McDiarmid and Margaret Campbell in Scotland - only one shows.
A Daniel McDiarmid b. 15 Oct 1819 Aberfoyle, Perth, Scotland
I then did a search for the surname McDiarmid - using the free 'wills' search facility on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - there are 26 people with that surname between 1828 and 1901 - 3 of whom may be of interest. (they may or may not be related to 'your' Archibald).
There is one Archibald death as you can see below, kin of Daniel - Possibly Daniels father?. Daniels Inventory refers to Archibald of Australia. the 3rd entry is of Daniels wife.
If you haven't used Scotlands people. before it's pay per view, but there is a certain amount of free searching. Wills cost £5 each to download.
Regards, Steve

G'Day Steve, Thank you very much for your efforts. We had been sniffing the BMD at Scotland's People re Archibald McDiarmid, but never finding anything with any certainty to spend some money on. Now your information provided gives us enough clues to dig in the right places. Thank you again, very much appreciated. The Archibald McDiarmid who made his way to Australia in 1852, by himself on the "Bourneuf" changed his name to McDonald, married twice, fathered 9 children and died in Bendigo,Victoria in 1901. He was buried as Archibald McDiarmid at Bendigo, back to his birth name. Thank you once again. People such as yourself make this research far more enjoyable. All the best, Lyn and Trevor Schasser,Australia.
