Thomas DOBLE & Elizabeth - who ?
« on: Monday 04 May 09 18:24 UTC (UK) »

My ggggg-g/father Thomas Doble born 1711 Bap 15/2/1711 Churchstanton Devon - died 1785 buried 1/10/1785 Got this info on the Churchstanton Church records.

I know his wife was called Elizabeth but haven't a clue what her maiden name was, where or when she was born or where they married.  Her death isn't recorded in the Churchstanton records where Thomas was buried although their 8 children are all baptised and recorded there.
Thomas was recorded as being a pauper.

Where do I go from here Smiley Smiley Smiley

There is a burial shown for a Betty DOBLE, Pauper at Churchstanton 5 Sep 1784. I would expect that the marriage took place in her home parish. The following link shows nearby parishes which you may want to research:

You might also want to obtain a copy of a will belonging to john DOBLE of Churchstanton (dated 1825) which you can obtain from the Devon Record Office very inexpensively.

Thanks for your help.  Been trying other parishes in the area but a lot of them aren't available like the Churchstanton church records but will keep trying - garden keeps calling me.
The records office in Devon looks like it needs transcribers (? is that the word) which gives me food for thought but maybe I'm still a bit new at this sort of thing. Smiley Smiley
