Thanks, Gadget
William & Mary's children were - James, 1789. Eleanor 1790 Thomas 1792 , William 1794, Margaret 1796 Mary 1798 Thomas 1799 Phillis 1802 Joanna 1804 Isabella 1806, They were all Christened at the United Preb. Church, Spittal James, Eleanor, William and Isabellla moved to and married in Longbenton, so it seems possible that all the family went, but at what date and how many of them, I haven't tracked down yet. (The men were miners.) Would there have ben mining jobs in Old Machar? I have found a few Piries on the 1841 Census for Old Machar. But it's tying them in that's the problem.
Cheers Liz

If they used the trad naming patterns then
James - William's father Eleanor - Mary's mother Thomas - Mary's father William - William Margaret - William's mother Mary - Mary
Then it's often brother's and sisters etc but, by the looks of it, they did follow the convention so you should maybe look for a William with parents James and Margaret and Mary with parents Thomas and Eleanor.
No coal mines in Old Machar - maybe quarries and agriculture. Many Aberdonians did move to the North East. I have friends whose families came down that way and ended up in Shields and Sunderland.
Longbenton isn't far from me but no coal mines now!
I'll have a look to see if i can find possibles for you

The only ones that have me interested a the moment are these two:
16th April 1759, Aberdeen City, Mary Pirie. Parents - James Pirie and Mary Forbes
15th March 1761, Logie/Buchan, Mary Pirie. Parents - James Pirie (no mother's name )
Occasionally they might swap the naming pattern around (it happened in one of my Kirkcudbright families) but, then again, it could be that neither of them are in the OPRs for various reasons
There's nothing on the marriage entry to give any indication - both of the parish and a Church elder stood for them.
I've looked for Piries and Rennies having children 1750 -1775 in Old Machar but again, not much joy.

Hi Liz
If you look at the parish map that I gave the link to, you'll find Logie Buchan to the North of Aberdeen, south of Cruden between Slains and Ellon.

My money would be on Inverurie - it's just to the north of Aberdeen. I had friends who lived there and it's only a short drive from Aberdeen - longer in those days though.
