The only  thing that I can think of is the Kirk Sessions records or burial records* but they are only in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the larger records offices. Aberdeen might well have them :

http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/localhistory/rm_loc/loc_archiveshomepage.asp

*burial records would be on SP.

I note that the Aberdeen Archives have records of denominations other than the C of Scotland - might be worth trying to get someone to look through them.

Aberdeen Archives also have burial registers, but only really for Aberdeen city so if he died there, he could be in one of the registers.  The list of burial records they have is on their website as well as the list of church records.  They hold the Kirk Session material for Aberdeen city churches, but not Aberdeenshire ones.

Thanks for the additional info.

This doesn't agree with what it says on their website:

http://www.aberdeencity.gov.uk/LocalHistory/rm_loc/loc_AberdeenshireRecords.asp

Where it lists that Church Records (and other Aerdeenshire records) from Aberdeenshire are held at Old Aberdeen House.

Quote
Since local government reorganisation in 1996, the historic documents of Aberdeenshire Council along with some for the Moray Council have been administered by Aberdeen City Archives. The records include those of the former counties of Aberdeen, Kincardine, Banff and Moray up to 1975 and Grampian Region from 1975 to 1996. From 1996 the holdings include records from the current counties of Aberdeenshire and Moray.

The main collections, which are held at our Old Aberdeen House office, include:
Burgh records
County Council & District records
Poor Relief Records
School Records
School Board records
Commissioners of Supply Records
Valuation Rolls
Deposited Collections
Church Records

There are church records for Aberdeenshire held by Aberdeen City Archives, but not Church of Scotland ones (Kirk Session).  The Aberdeenshire Kirk Session records are held in Edinburgh, but other non Church of Scotland church records (episcopalian mainly) for Aberdeenshire are held at Aberdeen City Archives.

From the Aberdeenshire Archives link above...
Church Records

Records for various episcopalian and methodist churches in the North East are held by Aberdeen City Archives.  Please contact us for further information on these.  Church of Scotland records for Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Morayshire and Kincardineshire are held at the National Archives of Scotland.
