Did He Cross The Atlantic?
« on: Thursday 14 May 09 15:20 BST (UK) »

Hi Rootschatters Smiley
Is it possible to find out if and when James Rennie (or Renny) left Britain?
He was born in Spittal 1,5.1789, and married Ann Bell in Longbenton on 7.5.1816. 3 children that I know of were born there, Hannah and Jane in 1820, and Ann in 1823.
I cannot find him on the 1841C, and have discovered a death for him on 29.8.1878 at Trevorton, Northumberland, Pennsylvania USA.
Thank you.

Hi ...Liz

A very detailed account of this man can be found on the "A" site in Ancestry world tree's
James Renny b 1 May 1789 arrived in Pennsylvania (Pottsville) in 1830's.

There is an e-mail for the gentleman who has the tree which was last updated in 2004.

Thanks, Tazzie, it's exciting to trace him going to Pennsylvania, as it  could explain why 2 nephews, sons of his sister Isabella, (one of which was my Gt Grandfather) went out to Pennsylvania

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm still finding my way around computers - but I tried to find the Ancestry world tree without success. I can find other people's trees which include James, but not the details you mention.

What do I do!

Liz,

If I recall correctly, my mom's former boss descends from James RENNIE & a BELL woman.  Boss lives in Northumberland County, PA.  If you would like, I could ask if he is interested in this line and in corresponding with you.  And if you need a lookup in the Trevorton/Shamokin area, perhaps I can help.

Hi JudyLynn, thanks for your message.
I can always send you my email on a PM if the Boss wants to correspond. It's amazing how our genes are spread all over the world.
Is the Lynn part of your name attached, - it isn't a surname, is it? I have Lynn ancestors in PA, too!
If there's anything I can think of I'll get in touch. I'll have a look in my US records. Thanks very much for the offer.
