Hi I'm looking for help with this couple. Ann Perry, daughter of Charles Perry and Mary Dyer, and Richard Ley, carpenter, son of John Ley, labourer, were married 28/3/1840 Lanlivery and had a daughter Elizabeth Ann Ley born 7/9/1840 Lanlivery. 1841 census I can find a Richard Ley at Redmoor , Lanlivery, but no wife and daughter. I cannot seem to find a death for wife and daughter either. There is another marriage in 1847 for a Richard Ley, bachelor, labourer, of lanlivery, son of John Ley, labourer, to a Mary Cullis. My question is - is this the same Richard ?? Any help with this couple would be very much appreciated
Thanks in advance bper in oz

have you checked out these deaths, both sept qtr 1843 ? Elizabeth lee Bodmin vol 9 pg 25 Ann Maria Ley Bodmin vol 9 pg 26
Do you have both marriage certs? Does Richard sign in both cases? It could be a coincidence - 2 cousins both named after their grandfather,. I'm not sure that a carpenter would be an ag lab on the census 15 months later, unless he wasn't being entirely truthful on his marriage.

Like you, I suspect these are 2 different people. I don't think it's likely that someone having been apprenticed as a carpenter would then be working as an ag lab, and then on later census entries, a quarry or mine labourer.
Can't find burials for to match the death regs to give a clue.
Have you tried the online parish clerk for Lanlivery for any extra info? http://www.cornwall-opc.org/Par_new/l_m/lanlivery.php
Do you have a baptism for Richard?
