this is a long shot but . . .Great great Grandfather William and wife Mary BROWN and three children, hailed from a farm in Dryfesdale, Dumfriesshire - migrated to Victoria, Australia in 1859. Went to the gold fields, and he died in Ballarat in 1874.
William's son, George John Johnstone BROWN, had a son Bertram in 1879 - and we've lost him somewhere!!  Where is Bertram ?  - last known of him is on his mother, Rebecca's death certificate in 1931 (Victoria Australia) when Bertram was listed as still alive, aged 51. On the death certificate he is listed as Albert, but his birth certificate says Bertram.
No-one knows anything about him - but we think he may have left the country. Did he return to Scotland by any chance. We've looked everywhere even in the prison and asylum listings!!
Any further knowledge would be wonderful
