Victor Maughan HALL
« on: Friday 15 May 09 08:51 UTC (UK) »

I am hoping someone may be able to help me solve a mystery. I am tryng to get information on a Victor Maughan HALL born 25th June, 1904 at Hexham NOrthumberland. He was baptised at St Peters Newbrough, Northumberland, he was a son of John Joseph and Daisy Jane Hall nee Maughan. I found him on the 1911 census but was listed as an orphan, and had been adopted by a William and Jane Kirkby, of Erlington Station, Northumberland.
Next thing I found was his death at South East Hampshire. I sent for the death certificate and found he had died 3rh January 1999 at the Royal Hospital Haslar, Gosport. The address where he had lived was Northcott Houe, Bury Hall Lane, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire, and the person who supplied the infromation * and it has he was his nephew.
If anyone can hlep me in anyway to try and solve the mystery I would be grateful.
I have not been able to find anything about the deaths of his parents nor have I been able to find his brother John Nicholas Craig, and sisters Dorothy, and Lucy on the 1911 census.

* Name removed: this person may still be alive.

You may have to go back a bit to work forwards, if that makes sense.

do  you have the marriage cert of John Joseph Hall and Daisy Jane Maughan?

Oh dear - they seem to have gone to Canada and left poor little Victor behind Sad

Outbound passenger list, 11 Sep 1908

SS Virginian, sailing Liverpool -Quebec & Montreal

John J. HALL, Lab.
Daisy do Wife
Dorothy do Child
Lucy do Child
Craig do Child
Fredk do Child
Victor do Child*
Desmond do Child

* The fact that Victor's name was crossed through suggests that he was to have sailed but in the event did not.

The corresponding inbound passenger list in Canadian immigration records shows the family (without Victor) arriving 26 September 1908.  John J HALL is described as a Farmer, and the family's ultimate destination is Melford, Saskatchewan.  Children's ages are as follows:

Dorothy 10
Lucy 9
Craig 7
Fredk 6
Desmond 2.

Hello

Poor child, I wondered what happened to cause this to happen? Why didn't they send for him?
