Mary Dowsett      1821 Great Braxted Essex
Charles Dowsett  1856 Colchester                       Labourer

Living in what looks like Mill Yard ( or garden) east

RG 10/1687/94/41

There are 2 Charles Dowsett born Colchester 1856 in the 1871 census. The other is the son of Martha and is a blacksmith.  Not sure which one is yours.

When you look at 1881 and 1891 this Charles appears as a blacksmith married to Emily. I can't find the other Charles ( son of Charles and Mary)

Address looks like Devall Court

Hi there is a public tree with this family on An---try. Do you have access to this? If not let me know.

It gives Charles's father as Daniel Dowsett born Colchester 1834 died 1866. Charles mother was Martha Rushin born Wickham Bishop 13th Oct 1833.

Daniel's parents were Charles Dowsett and Martha Pegg 1810 -1870.

This looks like Daniel and Martha's marriage:

DANIEL DOWSETT to MARTHA RUSHEN in MALDON ESSEX 4th quarter 1854 4a 338


There are two deaths for a Daniel Dowsett born 1834 in 1866. I think yours would be the Colchester one - 1866 2nd quarter Colchester 4a 175. The other one was in Chelmsford Essex.

There are also 2 births for a Charles Dowsett in 1855. Unfortunately these are both in Colchester, so you would have to send for both certificates!
