parish lookups - online when?
« on: Saturday 16 May 09 10:43 BST (UK) »

When will it be possible to search parish records online for Monaghan? Anyone know?
I've done some fruitful research in Armagh (5 pounds a throw!), but I'm actually trying to find a church marriage around 1860 and so far it just refuses to come out of hiding.
I had the bright idea that they may have married in Monaghan - the families were from Crossmaglen/Castleblayney, so cutting across counties.
Is there any other way of accessing this info without going there?
Is anyone able to help?
Thanks for the hard work.

What religion were they? Civil registration of Catholic marriages started in 1864 but other marriages in 1845 so if they were married in a non-Catholic ceremony you should be able to find them in index to civil registrations and with the details there be able to order a marriage certificate.

Sorry, I didn't say. They were Catholic.
I intended to post a general query about Monaghan records online and then got carried away by my present research obsession!!
If anyone thinks they can help:
Mary McCabe born about 1844 in Co Armagh, married John Quinn (born ?  about 1838), baptised their first child, Mary, in Upper Creggan parish Armagh in Jan 1863.  Given how young Mary was I think we must be talking about a Catholic marriage in 1860-1-2.
So no civil registration, no parish records online. What are my options?

|And does anyone know when Monaghan is coming online?

And does anyone know when Monaghan is coming online?

Sadly, no sign of this being contemplated by anyone.
