Time for a summary

Harry was:
age 37 bn St James in 1891
age 26 bn St James in1881
possibly age 11 or 17 bn St James in 1871
possibly age 6 bn St Clements Danes in 1861

If the 1861 is right family there is an elder sister Caroline bn 1850 ish in St Pancras.

Sifer,we know what your problem is it's not helping keep repeating it.
If you could answer the questions we're all asking we might be able to find a link.

The problem with too many pages like the last thread(10)is that nobody can be bothered to read all of it and possible important clues could be missed, ort we're all going over and over the same ground.

Many of us have rellies who we've never found certs for, even after more than 20 years of looking  Roll Eyes Sometimes you have to leave it for a while and come back later,or look sidewards to get the clues to go farther back.

Have to go now- mum's in hospital!

Hi

On the IGI under the name Harry Willis

Birth:  16 Jun 1855
Christening:  24 May 1863   Saint Clement Danes, Westminster, London, England

to John Willis and Caroline batch number C041602

Under the same batch there is a Caroline Elizabeth to parents John Willis and Caroline Elizabeth. Caroline jnr was born 30 Oct 1848.

So now we need to find the marriage of John and Caroline Elizabeth. Does everyone agree this is Harry/Henry Undecided

Yes

And I think you deserve a special Rootschat award for finding this!

At least it confirms that Harry was a child of John/Caroline (no previous marriages involved).

And it makes that 1855 birth look likely - ifI were you Sifer I would get the cert anyway ( not stating what dad is meant to be)

No - on second thoughts that birth cant be him, as it was Jan/Feb/Mar 1855, and christening record shows he wasnt born till June.

Looks like his and Caroline's birth were ones that didnt get registered, before the penalties for non compliance came in.

Now we just need to get the family in 1851 with Caroline aged 1 ish to complete the picture, and to see where John/Caroline give as pob.

Well thank you lizdb (does a liitle curtsey) Smiley

Why are things never straight forward Tongue The only birth for a Harry Willis in 1855 Q2 is registered Headington, 3a 493. As I don't know the area well I googled and found it to be Oxford unless there are others that I don't know of. I am just going to check Caroline's.

Seconded Liz  Wink, give that girl a cream cake( Evie  Grin)

However..one thing that puzzles me is why the really big gap between his birth and his christening?

That still might suggest he was born with mum's maiden name but christened after the pair of them married.

Liz why didn't you and I look at the IGI ....lol  Wink
