John Willis
« on: Saturday 16 May 09 14:50 UTC (UK) »

Trying to find marriage  and birth of john willis.
Father of henry or harry willis born 1855, married to matilda beesley.

Was able to find harry willis and matilda beesley not problem, in census, and had john willis in census as being widowed. But need help with finding who he married, and when he was born as in mother and father.
Any help would be great,
Thanks

Which census did you find John a widow and what was his occupation? Do you have the marriage certificate for Henry?

Ten pages on Willises here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,350624.msg2538877.html#msg2538877

Have you found Henry/Harry's birth (sorry didnt re read all 10 pages) - if so getting the cert will tell you parents incuding mothers maiden name.

Then you can work back, one step at a time, finding the marriage, and then back to John's birth.

just had a quick recap - didnt you say that the 1855 henry Willis birth was not, in the end, the right one, as father not John?

i think i found john willis that was married to caroline willis
Born 1825, stepney middlesex england.

Shows them in the 1851 census john willis, caroline willis, and a ann willis age 1.
I think that ann willis died after that because she doesn't show up again in the 1861 census but a caroline willis does, wondering if she is a niece of them or something.!!!!!!1

Ages seem to make sense so far as i can figure!!!!
Could someone verify this for me if thats ok !

Thanks
Sifer

CAroline listed as daughter in 1861

RG9 178 89 36
6 Holles Str, Westminster

John 35 Factor? ? Maker bn Glos Newnhall
Caroline wife 30 bn Middx Chelsea
Caroline 11 bn St PAncras
Harry 6 bn St Clements Danes

So, John was born Gloucestershire.

With apologies - see reply no 55 for correct places of birth  Embarrassed

I am not convinced the 1851 is the same family, places of birth are so way out! ages are good.

1851 HO107 1551 60 2
372 Craster? Street Stepney
John 26 Coal Porter bn Whitechapel
Caroline 20 bn Hants Gosport
Ann 1 daughter bn Shadwell

Def a different family - as here they are in 1861
rG9 278 149 14
St George in the East

John 34 Lab at foundry bn Whitechapel
Caroline 30 wife bn Gosport
Ann 11
Daniel 9
Susan 7
Caroline 3
John 8 mths   all children bn St George

So that rules out that 1851 family!

But I cant as yet see the other family (John bn Glos) in 1851.
With the gap in ages between Caroline and Harry it is possible of course that this was a second marriage.

well i thought that john was born stepney london, and married a caroline murray.

I dont know why you think this
Looks very much as if Caroline (bn about 1850) is Harry's older sister.
There is a John Willis marriage on FreeBMD in Pancras in 1850 which is a possibility, but only one bride transcribed, very annoyingly, and she is not Caroline.

see looking at the 1881 census shows henry willis born 1855, matilda beasley, henry john willis,  caroline willis.

Then right next door it shows john willis 1828 stepney middlesex england as being widowed

Hi lizdb

What quarter did you find John Willis' marriage and I'll have a look at the full index if you wish?
