Hi
I see that you have got this information from a member submitted entry on the IGI.   Have you checked the Ewhurst register to make sure it is correct?    Ewhurst is on the IGI for that time so it is suprising that there is not an extracted record too.   Sometimes it is possible to contact the people who put these records onto the IGI so that might be worth a try.

Hi Lynn

John and Ann were married in Ewhurst on 15 July 1733 so presumably all the children were baptised there?  Do you have baptism dates?

Hello

Thank you for replying.  I have nothing other than their birthdates and have tried to trace them with no luck.

This is going to sound very daft but what is IGI.  Shows what a novice I am at this.

Hi Lynn

I have looked through the Sussex Family History Group database at the Ewhurst registers, firstly there appear to be 5 Goodsell couples having children at that point.  Probably all brothers and various spellings of surnames.

But these children are all baptised to John and Ann
John Goodsal 6 April 1734
Thomas Goodsal 7 July 1734
Mary Goodsal 25 October 1735
Elizabeth Goodsal 15 May 1737
duplicate entry
Ann Goodsal 26 December 1738
also appears entered on 25 March 1739
No Thomas in 1739
Stephen Goodsal 17 August 1740
Henry Goodsal 6 January 1741
Margery Goodsal 24 May 1743

then some extras again all baptised to John and Ann but different spellings.  I checked on the Sussex Marriage Index and at that point no other John and Ann married in Sussex.

Susannah Goodsale 29 April 1745
Stephen Goodsall 12 May 1747
Sarah Goodsale 6 August 1749
John Goodsall 24 March 1750
Fanny Goodsal 29 February 1756

By the way did you notice that

James GUTSALL married Ann Backwell on 19 October 1697 at Ewhurst and John's baptism seems to be 23 March 1711 John Gutsall to James and Anne Gutsall.

Seems there was a change in surname. There are other Gutsalls baptised at same time, probable siblings to John.  Would you like them?

I did find another John Gutsall baptised in 1711 to Henry and Anne Gutsall at Ewhurst.

However good news is that on findmypast there is a burial
28 October 1720 John Gutsall at Ewhurst, son of Henry.

On findmypast there are the following burials, all at Ewhurst:

Anne Goodsal buried 20 March 1757, widow of John
or (very confusingly)
Anne Goodsal buried 21 September 1757, wife of John
unfortunately I could not find the burial of John to confirm which it was

(There are more under many surnames which could or could not be children of John and Ann but nothing to prove that and several different families all using same names)

These have all in notes: daughter/son of John and Ann and were all at Ewhurst
Fanny Goodsal, 21 September 1757
Stephen Goodsal 10 September 1740
Ann Goodsale 1 May 1750
Susannah Goodsale 31 December 1758
John Goodsale 1 May 1750
Sarah Goodsale 22 April 1750
Margery Goodsall 9 August 1743

Now I really must go and have some breakfast.  Roll Eyes  Smiley

Hi Lynn

Do you think this is the correct family because if it is I have baptisms for children of James and Ann?

The GOODSELL family were a large family spread across the parishes of Bodiam Ewhurst and Salehurst.  Ok it doesn't help you much in your research but it gives you further avenues to explore

Hi genresearch

Have you come across all these name changes and variant spellings amongst them?

Hi Lynn

Whereabouts in Kent were they?  Ewhurst, Salehurst and Bodiam are quite close to the Kent border and it is highly possible there is a link.
