Bausor/Bauser help please
« on: Sunday 17 May 09 09:32 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Could anyone help me with my Bausor's (Bauser) please.
I have got as far back as Joseph Bausor of Garston, Wavertree who was the husband of Elizabeth Bausor formerly Hill, father of Joseph Bausor born 4/9/1871.

Harry Bausor died in 1943.  He was the father of Eva Bausor, Husband of Amy Bausor (d1932).
Am new to the family tree building and seemed to hit a brick wall with the Bausors.  Not sure where else to look.

Thanks

Do you have these records?

Harry Bausor born Sept Q 1871 West Derby Vol 8b p 528
Eva Bausor born June Q 1893 Salford 8d 695

Also
Hubert Sept Q 1873 Lunesdale 8e 695
Frederick Dec Q 1874 Lunesdale 8e 8e 727
Annie 1876 Lunesdale
LancsBMD gives Hubert & Annie's place of birth as Arkholme, a village on the north Lancs/Westmorland border, and gives their mother's name as Hill.  Annie is not on FreeBMD.

No luck with your Josephs, though.  Since you have Joseph jnr's date of birth, maybe you also have the place.  There is a Joseph BOWKER born in 1871 - could this be a misspelling, perhaps?

Joseph's marriage to Elizabeth Hill is recorded on FreeBMD in an odd way in Dec Q 1870 6a 1079, place Weobly - italics usually mean there is a question mark over the name, and although there is a place called Weobley in Herefordshire, I think it's most likely to be a mistranscription of W. Derby, don't you, in view of Harry's birthplace.

The Liverpool & West Derby marriages are in book 8b for Dec 1870, so it would have to be in the wrong book rather than a transcription error.

I've looked at the scan of the entry on the FreeBMD site, and although Joseph is spelled as Bansor, the volume & page number for both partners are as I gave them earlier, so unless Elizabeth Hill came from Weobley, Herefordshire or they married there, or a fundamental mistake was made in the register, there's something odd going on.  FreeBMD obviously thinks so, too.  The GRO entry is spelled Weobly, and the italics indicate that it is suspect.

How do you check the volume & page references, Deryck?

In freebmd enter the qtr and year, select West Derby and Liverpool. That shows all marriages in those registrations districts.

The Italics in ths case indicate that they think the registration district is mispelt rather than ouit of the expected range. You can repeat the enquiry, but enter Weobley and see that they are all in 6a.

Well now,  the FreeBMD entry for Elizabeth Hill's birth in Dec 1843 is registered in Weobly (italics again), so I guess it's Weobley, Herefordshire, but where is Joseph's birth?  I can't see it in Notts. The family certainly moved around.  Borwick, the birthplace shown for some of the children, is a village close to Arkholme.

Selena, can you fill in any of the gaps now?

Gilllg,

On re-reading the thread after you last post I see that the birth of Joseph matches the BMD for Harry that you found. I assume that "father of Joseph Bausor born 4/9/1871." should  read "father of Harry Bausor born 4/9/1871."

That certainly makes sense, Deryck.

Selena, can you confirm this for us?  To get further back from Joseph 1847 you will need to get his birth certificate for his parents' names, or perhaps someone on the Notts page is able to access the Newark parish records and find his baptism and their names.  St Mary Magdelene Church is the parish church and seems to have been the only one at the time of Joseph's birth.  If you ask for a lookup, don't forget to put  a link to this topic, so that people aren't going over the same ground.
