Hi Celia,

Just a thought, but if you can remember the names or some of the details it might help you to try the Search facility .. ?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=search

I've just tried it on the off chance for some of mine .. and it worked.

Kind regards,

Pels.

Sometimes I cheat and just google it....if you put in some of the best phrases you can remember and your username then quite often it brings up the posts and you can go straight there.....

Of course - quite often it doesn't work but it is a lot quicker (and easier on the rootschat server) than using search...

Hi Celia  Smiley

I've got lots  Embarrassed

I've also got a good memory and remember the odd word or name of the person I was helping and the likely board, so I often use the other person's name if the keyword doesn't show in the RC search.

When you start looking back, change the end of the URL (in the top box) to show start=300 (say).

That'll skip 10 pages or so

I have been moved back to class 1 Grin Grin
Hi all, thats the thing you see i cant remember any particular words or people .If i could find my old Pilot look up topic, which i cant,it would be easier because people i want are all on topic. The reason i wanted  to find it,is because i  still have on my computer. The Liverpool pilots  plus there boats from the directories 1827/1853 and i think 1894.I recognize a few of the pilots names from my reseach. So i was hoping to find the person the pilot belongs to.

I will try some of your suggestions,

Celia       I haven't used google before so i will try that

Google is just a search engine thingy like "Lycos" or "Ask Jeeves" or -whatever ... although "to google" has now become a verb as it is the most popular.

You can use any..But if you are new to google then try

www.google.co.uk
or
www.google.com

Just has 'Error  off limits" etc.   I checked up and the new thread started last Sept-ish. I did some searches but to no avail. I've done chops through Celia's posts  and the occupations board and the Lancashire board - lookups requests and offers and completed - nothing at all. So where is it  Undecided

Why don't you use the rootschat search facility?

For example using the keyword "pilot" posted by user "celia" comes up with about a dozen posts amongst which you should easily be able to find the one you for which are looking.

Here is how I would do it to break the search down into simply digested parts:  You can specify a timeframe, e.g. between 195 days old and 220 days old would give you (approx) October 2008.  search for word "the" (or "and", etc. but something likely to show up in your post).  Select your name as the User.

My example gives a single page worth of hits you can review.  If you don't find it, go back another month, i.e. select between 221 days and 250 days.

Note:  this works pretty well but will also get some outside the time frame for various reasons.
