Drogheda Journal obit please :)
« on: Saturday 07 March 09 19:56 UTC (UK) »

Ensign George Scriven ...  death 1841,
Drogheda Journal or M.L.C. & M General Advertiser

I don't know where to find these newspapers?  If anyone does, I would like to ask for a copy of whatever shows for his death.  From another source I know the date was ... 25 May 1841, at Tannah near Bombay.

I have almost nothing about George and would appreciate to have whatever someone can find.  Many thanks,
From Santa Rosa, California,   Katie Morris

HI KT, you would be better placing this in the Louth section instead of Dublin as Drogheda is in County Louth.
Have an address for you: Drogheda Library,Stockwell Street,Drogheda,County Louth.
Phone number is 35341 9836649
Email is www.elibs.gov.ie.
They might have some old copies on file.

Hello mumof2,

Would you try to find this for me?  I am an older mumof2, Ha Ha

Annette thank you for the information.  I got the bit for the newspaper with a short subscription with, 'Irish Family Research', website.  They have some Memorials of the Dead for Dublin, I wanted to see.
If it turns out mumof2 has no luck, I will use the library.  I have written to other libraries in Ireland and England and Scotland, including the Lambeth Palace Library and all librarians are super nice people.

Thank you, Katie

Drogheda journal update
« Reply #8 on: Monday 18 May 09 15:07 UTC (UK) »

The Drogheda library wrote me their microfilm of the

Drogheda Journal newspaper is missing the entire run of issues from May 1840 until July 1841.  I asked him who would have another film or the original newspaper?  He told me the National Library in Dublin should have it.  The librarian there told me they do have the microfilm Smiley  So I have now posted a help request on the Dublin board.  Hopefully someone will look for the death notice I want

Scriven, Ensign G  Upper Leeson St.  death 1841

My ggGrandmother Jane Scriven Evans, her brother Dr. WBB Scriven placed a plaque in Mt. Jerome cemetery,  " George Scriven Ensign ..... 25 May 1841".
Seems too coincidental their not the same man.
Many thanks to everyone who wrote from Drogheda to help me.  If anyone else goes looking for the film they will know there is a copy in Dublin.
