Hi
My great grandmother Frances Wilson (nee Newell) is listed on her marriage certificate (1879) as living at Cairnburn, Sydenham Co Down.

Her father was listed as William Newell (a coachman) and I'm assuming he worked for the owners of Cairnburn.

I know  where Cairnburn Park is, but cannot trace where the house was situated, which I presume has been demolished?

Can anyone help please?

Hi Alexaia,

Go to this site  https://maps.osni.gov.uk/login.aspx? Look for Map Console then Historical Maps then do address search Cairnburn park. You need to register to use the site.

I hope they help. Each map is of the exact same area so you can see where the house once stood. It appears The Stables is the site of the house.

Hi Your pete,

Thanks so much for this lead on Cairnburn and link to OSNI site.  I was beginning to wonder if the house existed but its there on the map for all to see.  A great result and a very useful link for future searches.
