Where are they buried?
« on: Thursday 06 August 09 14:54 UTC (UK) »

Hi, I wonder if anyone can tell me where William Siddall who died in 1840 would have been buried.
He was born in Brimington, I think he lived in Hollingwood Common, as his wife Rachel and family were there on the 1841 census.
Also I would like to know where Rachel was buried, she died in 1866.
I have contacted Chesterfield cemeteries but they have no record of them.

I am looking for the burial place of George and Jane Beer as well.
George died in 1888, Jane after 1901, she was on the 1901 census age 64.

According to a excerpt from a book about Seymour village in Staveley where they lived, it says...

There were no Chapels of Rest in those days. A service held outside the front door of the house preceded internment in Staveley Cemetery.

But again no record could be found of them there.
Any help on where to look for them much appreciated, Thank you.

I have the Brimington burial register transcriptions and they are not listed.

Tried BEAR AND BEER but nothing for them either.

Having checked Jayne McHughs site the baptisms for William and Rachels  children appear to be at Staveley St John the Baptist.
Staveley cemetery only opened in 1884, so before that you would expect them to be buried in the graveyard.

Hi,
If it is the William Siddall who was born in 1796, then he is listed as place of death/burial as Eckington.
Now whether this is the recorded district, or actual place of burial, I am not completely sure.
Thought it might be useful to you - hope so.
Good luck.

Hi Paulene,  It is the William Siddall born in 1796.
Rachel Siddall, nee Waterhouse, was also born in 1796, in Staveley.
George Beer was born in 1827 in Calstock, Cornwall.
Jane Beer, nee Gumb, was born in 1838 in Linkinhorne Cornwall.

Any piece of information is worth looking into. I think Eckinton may be the district, but this is more than I knew before.
Thank you.  Smiley

Hi Cg,

You know how a names sticks in you head. A old friends mother was called Siddall! in Yorkshire. Anyway to cut a long story short! some of my mothers side come from ( Grand parents married at Brimington) Chesterfield area in  a Village called Clowne. I was looking around all the graveyards in that area for my great granddad! 2008 and have seen that name William Siddall. There are some Siddell's at Clowne church yard I know! but could have seen William at other church yards. Bolsover Church and the old cem at Hills town 1/2 mile out of Bolsover - Balborough-Duckmanton- or Wales village church also Heath but thats a bit futher from Staveley But not Staveley itself as ! found  out before searching  my GT Granddad (Born Balsall Warwickshire) was in Clowne Churchyard hence stopped my search. At a Guess Bolsover or Clowne church yards

Hope its of help!

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.

Hi Dobby,
Thank you for your reply. I will check up on the possible burial in Clowne, or surrounding areas. As you said if your great grandfather was born in Warwickshire, and is buried in Clowne, it is possible my William could be buried in another place other than Staveley.
You never know, thank you for your help.

Hi C G.

It could be another William but?
Its a white(mucky stained cream [fancy stone]) stone with small grey/black writing (I don't why but it so vivid in my mind) I was going to take a photo of it for my friend? then had second thoughts as he lived in Yorkshire.  Bolsover graveyard is easy to check!(the grave yard location is like under a pie of Junk in the attic of my mind) took me 2 sunday afternoons1 Clowne- Bigger than it look and carefull use a stick as lots of little pot holes unseen (I foot deep where coffins have cave in )

I menting my grand dad as these people (Jobs) moved around unless you have his death cert

Good luck!

Ps,

Try Chesterfield (for Staveley Bolsover /Clowne)Sheffield( for Eckington burial )/Rotherham ( Wales village church)Worksop (for Balborough) libraries first for transcriptions (Also original register on microfilm/fiche)of parish & nonconformist burials and Memorial inscriptions as it does not take long to look up on a known year. if indexed names  is even quicker still.

Try local family history society as they have burial on computer and in folder (No need to buy CDs or join as a member !as you can search as a guest [Or they will search free]and all indexed)

Also Matlock archives has loads on burials (indexed)

hope it helps
