Cinema footpath in Queen Street Oxford
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 18:56 UTC (UK) »

My parents grew up in Oxford in the 1940s/1950s.

People may remember the Electra Cinema in Queens Street - now the site of Marks and Spencer.

But can anybody recall the name of the alleyway which ran down the side of the cinema from Queens Street into Pembroke Street?

The Pembroke Street end of the alleyway is now the rear exit for M&S - but the rest of the alleyway is absorbed into the current shop?

There was also a Majestic Cinema in Botley Road (now Halfords) - where my gt-grandfather Frank Betteridge worked (1940s).

Anybody remember these - or know the Betteridges of Wooton?
