Hi
Fathers names were not shown on marriage entries prior to 1.7.1837 - mothers names are never shown
Marriage entries do not show actual birthplaces - possibly just "OTP" which means of this parish. This can often just mean that he satisfied the residential conditions for marriage - not necessarily that he was born there
I found this extracted record on the IGI - is it one of their children?
MARTIN BOLTON LANGSTON Christening: 27 DEC 1818 Saint Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey Father: MARTIN BOLTON LANGSTON Mother: JANE
Did they move to Gloucester as there are several IGI entries for those parents
FREDRICK BOLTON LANGSTON Christening: 18 MAR 1829 Chipping Campden, Gloucester Father: MARTIN BOLTON LANGSTON Mother: JANE
ALFRED BOLTON LANGSTON Christening: 25 MAR 1831 Chipping Campden Father: MARTIN LANGSTON Mother: JANE
CHARLES BOLTON LANGSTON Christening: 26 MAY 1833 Chipping Campden Father: MARTIN BOLTON LANGSTON Mother: JANE
There were a number of others as well

My Amazing Mother 1912-1982
|
Hi All,
I was curious as to the connection between the Taylors and the Langstons given that the orphaned children are living with Charles and Sarah 1841.
Found this;
Marriage; Sarah LANGSTON Charles TAYLOR 25 December 1812 Chipping Camden, Gloucester
The marriage is submitted and there are several of them , but seems interesting
So was Sarah Taylor Martins Mother remarried?
Also there are lots of Jane Steel baptisms on IGI so hard to figure out
Trish

Hi there. Martin Bolton Langston and Jane Steele were also my great great great grandparents. Their daughter Leah Langston born Chipping Campden 1825 married George James Howman in 1847. At times they refer to themselves under the surname James as George Howman's mother Sarah married Benjamin James in 1827 the year after George's birth. But he lists Benjamin James as his father on his marriage certificate.
Martin Langston was born 1795 to Sarah Langston who then married and became a Taylor a few years later. There are references to Langstons in the area back to around 1450. They were landowners according to the county history but seem to have declined. I have found reference that Martin and Jane Langston and the whole family spent some time in the workhouse in the 1830s due to bankruptcy. Martin and Jane both died just before registration of deaths began. there is a death certificate for their son Martin. Their daughter Clara Langston born 1820 emigrated to Australia in 1852 and died 1881. She married a James Stuart her descendant Ted Russell has sent me copies of letters between 1852 and 1870 from her brother Alfred Bolton Langston to Clara in Australia which they have handed down. They offer a fascinating insight into the family. Alfred was born 1830. There were also some letters from Charles born 1833 who joined the Royal Artillery Their daughter Emma Howman born 1851 emigrated to America in 1870, married my great grandfather John O'Malley in 1872 in Providence Rhode Island and moved back to John O'Malley's family home in Cupar Fife Scotland in 1875 upon the death of his father Martin. Their youngest child ( of ten) Clara born 1893 ( died 1987) in Provost Wynd Cupar married my grandfather Frederick Wood in Cupar in 1914. My father Frederick was born 1915. We are all from Cupar. Emma died three months after Clara's birth in Provost Wynd. They ran a travellers hostel there for 50 years. The O'Malleys came over from Co Mayo Ireland in 1848 and settled in Cupar.
Leah Langston Howman died in 1914 in Chipping Campden but she spent much of the 1880s and early 1890's with her youngest son Martin Langston Howman (born 1865 in Chipping Campden) who came to Cupar to take up the post of legal apprentice at the Cupar Sheriff Court,.He became Asst Procurator Fiscal for Orkney in 1888 or 89 and the 1891 Census shows Martin and his mother Leah living in Orkney. Martin then became Procurator Fiscal for Perthshire after 1900 AND REMAINED IN POST UNTIL HIS DEATH IN PERTH IN 1942.
In the 1901 Census she is living with her married daughter Leah Langston Johnston in Foots Cray Kent and in 1911 IN Shropshire WITH HER SON IN LAW IN An inn there.
Hope some of this is helpful. My direct email at work is (*)
