Hi Dixel

I've just got your message but will get back to you as soon as I can. I am just off to work so can't hang around. Off the top of my head though, I think her name was in fact Ann Eskritt or similar, they married in Driffield c1876 and she died c1885.

edit:- I'm at work now on a quick break!

If you go to the photo restoration board and trawl through the requests to Dec 07 (i'm pretty sure it was just before Christmas the year before last!) and look for my user name Stangat in the name column there should be a request for a clean up or mend  or similar. The photo on there should be of a little girl (8ish), a woman sitting down and a man standing alongside with a moustache and flat cap. If you can find it, the woman is Anna Maria Fairley (nee Smith) and your John Fairley. The girl is my GGrandma Bessie.

I'll get back to you ASAP

Cheers for now

Ian

PS Just looked for it. It's on page 97 about halfway down 14th Dec 07 the one with 3 replies

Hi again Dixel

Most of the info I have for John Fairley is on my Ancestry dot co dot uk site. Have you got access to the site as it would probably be easier for you to take it off there?

Not a problem if you haven't and I'll PM you the details I have for him.

Cheers

Hi Ian, thanks for your reply, thats interesting her name being Eskritt, if that is so, no wonder I couldn't find it.  On Alice's birth cert, who was born in Leeds, it puts her mothers maiden name as Heskett.  Still doesn't help you tho, as I dint know when John died.  I can get onto Ancestry, but am not a paying member, so dont know if I can access your details, will try now.
Thanks again, Chris

Hi Chris

Just working it out I think that we would be half second cousins once removed--I think Huh

Having just tried to access ancestry without logging in it would appear the site won't allow you to see my info. What would you like to know?

Did you find the picture ?

Cheers

Hi Lizzie and Gill

Well I got up to Beverley and found Charlie's marriage cert, in fact I pushed the microfilm into the reader and he appeared in front of me-spooky eh. As suggested by you, it showed John was dead by 1920.

Next was to trawl through the Electoral Rolls. John was registered in 1915 but they couldn't get the ones for 16-20 unfortunately.

I have now narrowed it down a bit so thanks for the help.

Cheers

Hi Ian, just been reading your last note, I have been looking for John's death n on free bmd a John W Failey aged 74yrs died Sept 1919 Sculcoates 9d 178 but "our" John would only be around 68, but could be possible I suppose.  Sculcoates is an area around east of Hull, my Grandmother, his dght Alice would have been living in Hedon, Thorngumbald at that time....which is within the then Sculcoates area.....could it be possible he was staying with her?Huh? She went into service at 13, so may not have known her father's exact age....or am I just wishing it to be him???
What do you think??

Hi Chris

Yes I've seen this one and have partially discounted it, for the moment anyway but it could be him. As far as the age is concerned, this changed with the wind I think. From various sources, census etc his age varied by about 10 or 11 years so the reported age could be correct. As I said before though, he was born on 1st Oct 1851 but that never seems to tie up!

I suppose he could have been visiting Alice so it could be him especially as he has been reported before as Fairley, Farley, Fairlee, Fairlie etc.

I'll let you know if I get anywhere!

Cheers

Hi again, I have just received John FALEY & Ann Escritt marr cert this morning, don't know if you have it, but they married on 16 December 1876 he was 26 n Ann 24 he puts his father as John Faley Labourer and she puts her father as George Escritt, but on her birth cert, she was illegitimate!  so more investigations there.  The marriage was "rushed" as Alice was born 20.7.1877.  His own signature on the certificate appears to be Faley.....interesting stuff this isnt it............
