Hello Brian,
The only death I could see in the period 1881-1890 was for a John Sloane in Manchester RD in the March quarter 1885. It shows age as 64 which would be right for him.
Could he have gone to hospital in Manchester and died there?
I also looked for Margaret, his wife and couldn't find her 1891 onwards either. There is a marriage of a Margaret Elizabeth Sloane in Conwy RD in June quarter of 1890. I couldn't establish who she married though. Is it possible that Margaret was widowed and remarried? This would explain why she cannot be found as well.
Jo

Hello Jo, I cannot find John Sloane after 1881. His wife died 9 Sept. 1894 and is buried at Llechwedd, Conwy. I did manage to find the John Sloane that died in Manchester, but as far as I know, there is no connection with that area. His father, also a John Sloan [without an e] born 1789, came from Everton, Liverpool. There are two John Sloan's who died in Liverpool, one born 1824 that died 1876, which rules him out, the other born in 1826 that died 1897. Whitehaven also has two Sloan's, one born 1815, the other 1823. If I could locate him on a cesus record after 1881, it might narrow down the search. Thank you for your help. Brian

Dear wilcoxon, You have the right Margaret, Robert & Mary did emigrate to America, as did Robert's sister Jane, but Robert & Mary came back to live in Llechwedd. So my search is narrowed down to John Sloane, b. 1821, dying between 1881, when he is last recorded on a census, and 1891 when Margaret is a widow. Margaret Sloane is buried at the chapel cemetery at LLechwedd, but no sign of John. Thanks for helping, Brian

I did think as a last resort maybe the marriage cert of Robert and Mary might give a clue, perhaps as father alive or deceased, but it seems they didn`t marry till 1891 anyway if this is the same couple .
Marriages Mar 1891 Sloane Mary Conway 11b 647 Possible husbands. Davies Robert Roberts John
