The death certificate I ordered for Hugh Larkin has arrived but not sure I am any further forward.
I had hoped it would of mentioned my gr.grandfather Simon Larkin as present at death, but no luck, the certificate reads
Hugh Larkin Farmer aged 55 married, died 11/03/1871 present at death, Ellen Larkin, death registered in the district of Raferagh in the union of Carrickmacross. No actual address was given is that usual on certificates?
Does anyone have any ideas please as to where to go from here?

I thought I would try the Hugh aged 55 from Aghnamullen first because of the year he died, coinsiding with the year Simon Larkin arrived in Co Durham, but lesson learned, never presume. I have just been around to the Post Office and posted off the order to Roscommon GRO for details of the other Hugh aged 72 from Corcreeghagh.
I hope this is the correct one, I shall see when the certificate turns up in a few weeks. The thing is how do I know if it is the correct one? would the next step be looking at Parish Records for a Marriage for Hugh and his wife? then a baptism for Simon?

Hello Malshie,
In column 5 is Hugh married, single or a widower and what was his occupation in column 7?
You cannot rely on the certificate alone to provide all the answers I'm afraid.
