Farquhar MacLennan, Gairloch
« on: Wednesday 20 May 09 16:09 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I'm searching for any information related to Farquhar MacLennan, probably born in or near Leckie/Kinlochewe (Gairloch). What I have from him is:

Parents: Roderick MacLennan (1716-1816) and Ann MacKenzie.
Death: 1834
Children: Alexander, Ann, Isabella, Christina

Christina married a Murdo MacKenzie (probably it's the marriage registered 1 MAR 1836 at Fodderty). This couple had at least one son, which a hand-written document states as: Captain MacKenzie (De Wet) or (De Net).

Anything regarding Farquhar, his wife or children would be great.

Thanks,
Francisco

Hi Francisco, you have others on Ancestry with Roderick and Annie, but only one son listed as Kenneth MacLennan born 1785 who would be your Farquhars brother I presume.

Hi Skewy,

Yes, I have a brother of Farquhar called Kenneth, but born 1768 (not 1785). In fact I have a lot of information about most of Farquhar's brothers, it is his line of descendants where I'm stuck. Despite having the names of 4 of his children I'f been unable to pin any one of these down to start working on the family from there.

The marriage of his daughter Christina to Murdo MacKenzie could have been the key, but the OPR gives nothing: no ages, no parents... it just confirms that they married. Their son, Captain MacKenzie, could also be a good starting point, but without his first name it's difficult to start looking for him. I wonder what the (De Wet) or (De Net) written after his name in the hand-written document I have stands for.

Many thanks,
Francisco

I've finally found a marriage for this Farquhar MacLennan: August 8, 1805 in Gairloch to Christian McGregor (daughter of Alexander McGregor). The OPR states he is a son to Roderick, tenant in Leckie, so this is clearly him.

With this marriage I've been able to find 2 births:

Donald MacLennan, born 27 OCT 1809 in Gairloch
Ann MacLennan, born 23 JUN 1807 in Gairloch

Any info about these two children and the others, and/or about Christian McGregor would be very welcome.

Hi kiko, there is a Kenneth MacLennan married to a Christy or Christina (depending on census) had a son. See P.M I've sent.
