Eleanor / Elinor Phillips Moylgrove
« on: Wednesday 20 May 09 16:11 UTC (UK) »

Hi I'm trying to find out information about this lady and further back about her parents any dates etc...

She was born 1846 in Moylgrove (we don't know when in 1846)
We don't know when she died either but I know she married Evan Davies 1866 (I've ordered the marriage certificate)

I've been told on the 1851 census she is living at Glandwr Moylgrove with parents Joshua and Mary and 8 siblings

So any info on any of these lot would be really helpful

Many thanks

Birth
Jan/Feb/MAr 1845
Carmarthen
2b 534

Elinor Phillips

this doesnt look right in light of census below, as Eleanor is noted as a twin with Martha - but this birth entry does not have a MArtha on same page

But I cant see an entry that does have a birth for a Martha and an Eleanor on same page!

not proving as simple as I hoped - not helped by Ancestry's confusing and unclear new set up on the pages that seems to have appeared in thelast few days - old system was much better!

so far:

Eliza
at home age 8 in 1841
at home age 19 in 1851
Cant see any obvious Eliza's bn in Moylgrove in later censuses. more than one possible marriage after 1851

Rachel
at home 7 in 1841
at home 17 in 1851
same story

Joshua
at home 3 1841
at home 13 1851
not known 1861 (maybe at sea?)
At home as a Master MAriner in 1871 (still single)
cant find anything dfinite in 1881 as yet

David
at home 1 in 1841
at home 11 in 1851
at home 21 in 1861
not found 1871

1881 RG115428 68 2
Penwen? Moylgrove
David 41 Farmer 180 acres bn Glandwyr Moylgrove
Jane wife 41 bn Trefynt? Moylgrove
Susan Jane Evans 16 dtr
David Joames Evans 10 son
William Thomas Evans 7 son
Mary Evans 12 dtr
Ann Martha Evans 4 dtr
Lizzie Phillips 4mths dtr    childen bn Penwen? Moylgrove

Looks very much as if this is a second marriage for Jane, and that she and first husband, a Mr Evans, lived at this farm Penwen?, with David taking it over when they married, pesumably in the last couple of years prior to the census.

BAck in a mo when I've looked for the next batch

Just reread that bit about John, and I my guess is in 1881 that Martha Davies could be brother Joshua's wife as he was a Mariner.

do you think that makes sense?

Wouldnt like to assume anything.

John was just a lodger there.
There are LOTS of Mariners wives around!
David was also a Mariner in 1861 - so they moved in "mariner" circles as well as farming - so probably would have known families that wished to take in lodgers.
