I am now having doubts about the John that was a curate in 1881
I have found this John, a Mariner, in 1891 and the children's ages indicate a probable marriage pre 1881.

Now whether this is the same chap, and he married and changed occupation since 1881 and the children are actually step children OR whether this is another guy and there are two John Phillips born about the same time in Moylgrove, and this one was at sea in 1881 .... i dont know

RG12 4544 11 1
St Dogmells Pembrokeshire
John 49 Mariner bn Moylgrove
Eleanor 30 wife bn St Dogmells
Thomas Evan Phillips 18 son
Roderick 12 son
Willie 9 son

looking at it, th echildren  cant be Eleanors if she was 30, couldnt have an 18 yr old son.
Therefore must be Johns - therefore this must be different John to the one who was a single curate in 1881
Therefore 2 Johns
One of which is yours!

Oh and forgot to post this my uncle went round Moylgrove graveyard and came back with a load of inscriptions

The David Phillips who married Jane turned up like this.......

Jane Phillips wife of David Phillips Vagwreinon-Bach died 26th June 1899 (59 years)
which would fit with why she is missing from the 1891 census

David (husband) died 11 Nov 1915 (75 years)
Joshua (son) died 5th Aug  1886   (4 years)
