Hamilton family to Oz, 'William Rodger' 1838
« on: Thursday 21 May 09 04:21 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I've found what I believe to be the family of my gggrandmother Jane Hamilton, who came from Kilwinning Ayr (from shipping records), aged 1, with her parents Mary aged 30-33 and William aged 29, and sister Ellen, aged 3.  The ship arrived in NSW (Sydney Australia) Sept 1838.  With this family, there seems to be another Hamilton family, although there is no hint as to their connection, consisting of Peter aged 34 from Lismahger, Lanark, Flora aged 30 from Leshenahago, Lanark...and what is listed as her children, Elizabeth, Susannah, Maria, and Jessie....although Jessie is the only one that seems to be listed on the 'William Rodger' with her mother. I can find Maria on another voyage...also listed with Peter and Flora are Agness aged 5, Flora aged 3, Horame aged 3, Mary aged 7, and another Mary aged 1.
Does anyone know of the Hamilton family/ies who came to Australia in 1838 on the 'William Rodger'?
Any information would be just wonderful!
Best wishes and many thanks,
Rap

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.
