Hi
I have been searching for a marriage for George NEWELL to Mary ?? c1742 who went on to have children in Wrestlingworth see
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,269376.0.html
I have just found this marriage
George NEAL to Mary WOOLHEAD 21 AUG 1736 Southill,
which looks possible although a little early as there first known child was baptised in 1743. Really looking to find any other info on this couple to discount them or otherwise.
I can't see any NEAL activity in Southill or any children for a George and Mary NEAL anywhere in Bedfordshire in the right time frame on the IGI
Thanks Jan

Hi Jan
I agree - there are no other Neals, Newells or Woolheads, in Southill at around this time. Nor burials. In the dreaded black hole, Southill Baptist Church book, there was a "Brother Neal" added to the church on 31 Oct 1723, but he's never mentioned again. Unfortunately there's no more detail shown in the transcript for the marriage
Which doesn't exactly add very much at all!

No, but thanks for checking anyway. They will have to remain possibles.

Hi John
Yes the MI's are for my George and Mary. I did have them but thank you for posting them as it has redrawn my attention to their ages - to marry in 1736 they would have both been under the age of consent. I need to try and find a Mary WOOLHEAD of right age, did she come from Southill, if not did they perhaps marry there because they didn't have consent, are there any children for George and Mary NEAL/NEWELL prior to 1743 in intervening parishes and of course is there an actual George NEAL? Also have to put this on my list for Blars as the witnesses may be helpful.
Thanks also for checking the Southill MI's the lack of Neals in the parish from your and David's searches does look promising.

There's only one other Woolhead in Southill PR and that was a marriage of Thomas in 1589. But I can't see an obvious Mary baptism anywhere close by Southill. The marriage entry is unlikely to be of much help as there were no witnesses pre 1754 - any other detail is in the transcript, and there's nothing!

Hi David
'No witnesses pre 1754' - I'd forgotten that.
As you say no obvious Mary Woolhead showing. No likely George Neal but then I have no baptism for my George Newell either and he certainly does exist!
No children I can see for George and Mary Neal or Newell 1736-42
Oh well
